Engaging story and interesting characters, with original elements I\’d not seen in other \”aliens out to get us\” stories. BUT… OMG this book is wordy. The sheer amount of detail is overwhelming and the editors should have used a firmer hand. I appreciate wanting to provide good descriptions and authentic-sounding technology but it really did make this an impossibly slow read. For example, the author takes four paragraphs to describe, in painstaking detail, how a character disables an electronic lock on a front door. Completely non-essential plot detail that could have been done in 2 sentences. If you like detail or don\’t mind skimming over when your eyes start to cross, I recommend because the story is good.

The basic idea for this novel is very interesting, and parts of the story worked well. Two issues resulted in my two-star rating. One is that there are some hugely improbable plot points. Can\’t go over these without being a spoiler. Yes, I know this is science fiction, but it should be tethered to reality. The second is that the book is very poorly edited, with lots of typos, grammatical errors, and word misuse. So, someone\’s interest is \”peaked\” rather than piqued, or they are in the \”throws\” of some issue rather than the throes. Phrases like \”you were extolling me\”, and thinking that the members of a cohort are referred to as \”cohorts\”: \”four godlike cohorts soar far above\” really got to me after a while. So, basic idea excellent, writer very promising, but really needs a first-rate editor.

Audiobook Fear the Sky (The Fear Saga #1) by Stephen Moss

This was a very fun book. While the evil alien invader tropes are tried and true, this is a fun and slightly different take than what Ive read before. More technical and thought out than many books like this, I really enjoyed the thoroughness of some of the plot lines. So if you like evil alien invaders and military sci-fi, then you should like this book. Im very surprised we havent seen a lot more from Author Stephen Moss. Apparently, after the completion of this trilogy he hasnt written much else. Four solid stars and recommended.

Audio Fear the Sky (The Fear Saga #1) narrated by R.C. Bray

Coworker recommended this series to me. The first book was very good, a somewhat slow building to a fast roller coaster final 30 pages of action. The second book was slower but also interesting. Im about 1/3 of the way through the 3rd and seeing the buildup to the actual attack. Love seeing the parallels in the two races and the perspectives from each side. I do question a few things the author chose to do, like seriously downplaying the American involvement after the first book – I found that rather unrealistic. But if you like military stuff, science fiction, and political intrigue, you will likely enjoy this series.

There were some loopholes to the story, nonetheless, it was still very entertaining and I couldn\’t put the book down! I decided to read this book during the downtime of my vacation in China and boy am I glad I found this on Kindle Unlimited. The characters in this book were all very original and the action scenes were very well articulated. What was so great about this book was that it made you care for the characters. Fights scenes were so suspenseful and it made me fear that certain characters might die. The scene in the basement was so intense that an elephant stomping through the living room wouldn\’t have been able to tear my eyes away from the book!! I understand that the whole concept of a super advanced alien race planning to take over Earth\’s resources has already been done multiple times, but Stephen Moss definitely changed the game up. The story was very well paced and there was never a moment where I was skipping lines to just get out of a certain section.
