So normally I love K A Linde books! She is an amazing author! But this book totally missed the mark for me! Like wave after wave of disappointment! Spoilers ahead! Beware! I should have know when I downloaded the sample and really didn’t get a feel for the book at all that I should have walked away. Download the Sample. You will see what I mean. Just ugh. So Reyna is poor and a burden to her two brothers so she decides to change that. In the beginning you get a glimpse of a girl who has the potential to become a pretty kick ass female lead. But it. Never. Happens. Possibly the most frustrating thing about Reyna is that she never “evolves” into anything more than a whiny, useless, character. She is just there. She isn’t doing anything productive. She just flies through the book hanging out with people and….. whining!!! Ugghhh it was absolutely painful to read. Her character was so underdeveloped. Reyna needed a kick in the ass big time. She is attracted to Beckham and then stars calling him Becks? WTH? She isn’t a 16 year old btw. It sounds juvenile. She likes him but he won’t bite her so she gets bored & he gives her a camera. She takes pictures, goes shopping, goes to a ball & a brothel & that’s it. OH and of course she gets attacked literally doing nothing and having no purpose. She could have been a secondary background character for everything she “added” to the book. I found Sophie more interesting. Reyna was about as deep as a puddle. So Beckham. I really do like an alpha male read. He has suuuucch potential. Right up until about the time he called her “Little One”. WTF dude. I don’t want you to call me anything that makes me feel like my grandpa is talking to me. Barf. No thanks. He has the mysterious thing going for him, and there is the whole hot and cold thing they have going on, but again… not a whole lot going on there. It’s not really clear how he eats, although he did take a drink of Penny at the brothel but other than that I got nothing. Of course, at some point I just started flipping pages because I was soooo over the whole non-plot thing. Somewhere (couldn’t even tell you where) we find out about a rebel group (random not-surprise there). Could Reyna get involved? Nah, she just takes pictures. Oh and stumbles on some maybe information but it’s never really cleared up in the book. Literally everything about this book was frustrating. They have sex. Big whoop. Figured it would happen eventually but Reyna can’t even stay mad at him to get a really good conflict scene going. She caves in about 2.5 seconds every time. Oh she left him… for 2 days (eye roll). He came to get her and she is like “well…. okay I guess” and then it’s by brothers who I haven’t seen in forever that I say I love and miss so much. See ya when I see ya! Like what happened here??? What is with the 5 stars?? I feel totally cheated out of 4.99…. still love K A Linde but will definitely be VERY careful the next book I chose to buy from her.

This book was a complete disappointment. The MC is one of the most unlikeable female lead characters I\’ve read in a very long time. The book starts out well enough, an interesting premise with a clear POV, but within the first third of the book the main character becomes pitiful beyond redemption. There is no reason Beckham would keep her around, she\’s annoying, whiny and without a backbone. Due to these blatant character traits he treats her terribly (why any person would find his behavior attractive I have no clue, he\’s a mean blank slate, but that\’s not the point here) and she wonders why he won\’t love her. It\’s painful. ALSO, if she\’s as poor and destitute as the plot sets her up to be, she would have NO reason to leave. He won\’t love her, so what?! Move on, he\’s not that good a catch anyway!!! Really, he sucks (no pun intended). Her brothers are literally starving and can\’t afford healthcare…that\’s the whole basis of her choice correct? So why the hell would she think for a moment she should leave?! I highly recommend skipping this one.

Audiobook Blood Type (Blood Type #1) by K. A. Linde

I gave it one star for originality. You have an unbelievable female lead. She does things that make absolutely no sense. She lost her parents early and grew up poor. This usually makes a person mature early. Your female lead is very immature. She makes the same mistakes over and over. She runs at the club she runs at the vault, and she runs from Beck\’s. There is no character growth she stays stupid the entire book. This upset me because the story has so much potential. I will not be buying the second book.

Audio Blood Type (Blood Type #1) narrated by Caitlin Elizabeth

This review has been a real struggle for me. I love the premises of this book and the series; I was very intrigued by the unique-sounding take on the vampire world and I enjoy this author\’s work. The store fell short for me, though. I understand that ARCs are not fully edited. I get that and don\’t expect a book to be ready to publish. With that said, I would hope a book going up on NetGalley would at least be a little cleaner than this. Words were switched around in sentences, wrong words were spread throughout, the plot had holes and inconsistencies. It was just too rough for proper reviewing. But I wanted to give this story a chance because I was so intrigued. So I waited until the audiobook released and picked that up on my own. One of the upsides of audiobooks is that a lot of errors seem to be corrected when someone has to read the words out loud. I also love the narrator chosen for this book. Some of the more obvious errors were fixed and that was great. The plot issues remained and I just felt disappointed at the story progressed. The story has a jerky flow and several scenes that feel forced and/or convenient. I also noticed a lot of similarities to the Sookie Stackhouse series, which I was not expecting. The similarities are most likely not on purpose but given the fact that I was so excited for a vampire story that was different, I was disappointed to be reminded of the more commonly-used characteristics of vampire stories. I do not have plans to read the second book in the series; maybe I\’ll pick it up if it ever goes on sale. I tried hard to like this book but my \”fan-goggles\” just wouldn\’t stay on. This book needs more editing and focus and maybe then it could be great. Until then, it\’s just \”meh\” to me.

Good story line and setting, a dystopian world where vampires exist. Beckham was very likeable, it was clear to see he was planning things in the background and it was easy to see the plot line and guess at where the story might go over three books, but what spoiled it for me was the h, Reyna. Annoying, often unlikeable character. She started off very likeable but quickly turned into a brat with absolutely NO self respect. She continuously threw herself at a man who had a girlfriend and told her he was not interested in her because of his girlfriend, but that did not stop this hussy, no, she repeatedly made plays for him and shamelessly threw herself at him. And only a girl who never had a job would consider her amateur hobby of taking photos “work” It felt like the author hasn’t fully developed Reyna’s personality as it changes one page to the next. One moment she was demure girl next door, the next she was being petulant or making a play for a man with a girlfriend. I also didn’t quite see how Reyna and Becks developed such strong feelings for each other having little actual contact. I initially gave up at 67% when she shamed him into taking her to a function instead of his girlfriend as he had planned. But having paid for it, I was determined to finish it. Unfortunately Reyna behaves annoyingly several times before the end. I would love to know where the story goes over the next two books but I’m not sure I could put up with Reyna’s behaviour.
