You can never go wrong reading any one of Anne’s timeless books. I have loved Anne McCaffrey since I picked up my first book she wrote about her beloved Pern. I was hooked. She has such a wonderful way of building a whole world and filling it with rich, exciting stories. I do miss her and her wonderful imagination.

As a boy I have this series twenties years later and I still find it a marvelous time. This and other Anne mcCaffery series I would recommend to anyone.

Audiobook Damia by Cris Dukehart
Damia was always an inquisitive child and into everything as she needed to feel like she was being important to someone because her siblings didn’t pay attention to her. It became so bad that her parents had to ship all the children off to their grandmother and it worked, Damia had a whole planet to roam around on instead of a doom on a moon. As Damia grew so did her psychic powers and she was finally ready for a Tower. She was very lonely and so when an alien came into contact with her she was enthralled enough to ignore that she was exhausted, Afra was concerned enough to have her brother come help and the events from the fight forever changed Damia. During the recovery time another alien species contacted Damia and several others on the Deneb planet making Damia wonder if they should be more careful this time around.

Good series start. Fantastic characters and a good involved plot. Good to read the Rowan first but not necessary to understand the plot.
First off, I love the idea of extended human capabilities; and am ruefully unsurprised that government entities arise to take advantage of them. The Tower and Hive stories offer a great variety of human potential. Anne McCaffrey seems to see a lot of nobility in our crazy species. Her characters often have a sense of responsibility toward their culture, and to humanity. She gives them to us as complete humans with wants, needs, joys and fears, love, patience and curiosity.
This is the story of Afra Lyon as much as Damia. He is there from before the beginning of her story, and is a constant source of love and support for the whole family. I found the “happily ever after” ending quite satisfying. I would love to see more of Damia and Afra as they become a family of their own.

Years ago I read everything Anne McCaffrey wrote, eagerly awaiting each new title as it arrived at the bookstore (for readers unfamiliar w/ the concept, it was a brick building that sold actual books). Over the years I gave away my collection to relatives, friends, new fans of the many worlds she’d created…. and I missed her. So I recently started to re-read all her stuff. What I love about her work is that she has created these fantastic yet believable worlds full of mythology and technology yet still grounded in the tiny dramas that humans create for themselves. It is escapist science fiction at its best!
Damia continues the story of the Rowan, told from a different set of perspectives and weaving in and out of the original story, fleshing out the world of FT&T and allowing me to dream of telepathy and teleportation as real. Great story-telling, characters I can love, and, unlike today’s trilogy-infested world, a free-standing story that is part of a series yet can be read independently.
