I absolutely love Christine Feehan and am currently building a collection of her dark series books. I order this book with intention on enjoying it and adding another book to my collection.
In my order, I hit “New” and double checked this after receiving my item. This is not a new book. It has marker on the top, frayed edges, the back is sticky from another sticker that has been removed, pages discolored, and obviously has been read. The new label has the book labled as a “New Item” even. Amazon. Not cool.

Gabriel and his brother, Lucien, are centuries old and have gone to ground to resist the darkness within them. Gabriel rises with a hunger and a yearning he can’t dismiss. Francesca is a Carpathian woman who has successfully hidden herself from her own people for centuries. She has chosen to live and did as a human, using her healing skills for sure need cases. Gabriel is her life mate, but he didn’t know it until he saw her again. Only her lightness and goodness can save her, but does she want to be part of that life again? Another wonderful tale of the Carpathians, their struggle, and the miracle life mates are to them. Great reading.

Love this book. Actual romance, not just “we’re together cuz biology says so”. 4 stars instead of 5 because there isn’t a lot of explicit consent in the first couple of sex scenes, and the manipulation of her biological functions to force a pregnancy on her without her consent is just…..wrong. So wrong. But she genuinely wants the baby, and genuinely loves him, so that mollified me enough to finish the book and really enjoy it.

Christine Feehan never fails to keep you intrigued and turning the pages. Her Carpathians and their lifemates just keep getting better and better. I absolutely loved Gabriel and Francesca’s story. Adding Skylar was such a bonus and I can’t wait to see where her story leads. Then you add in Lucian, Gabriel’s twin, and it so added to the suspense of this story. Highly recommend.
