I think people forget that this author was one of the breakout writers in paranormal/vampire romance back in the day. And that day was a loong, long time ago.
I read this series when there were only a handful of books and got an itch one night for a reread. Then saw some harsh reviews which I think were unfair. The romance paranormal/vampire genre has blossomed and changed since this novel was written. Are there some better ones out there? Sure. But considering the time in which it was written its still fantastic.
There’s a history with a solid background on where the vampires came from and a plot/romance that moves along at a great pace. An alpha male that is trying to save his people and a woman that knows how to handle herself.
Still a good read many years after publication and still a fan.

Dark Prince audiobook in series Dark
New to Feehan but amazing characters and change to a bit of vampire lore that really reads well and brings you into the Carpathian mountains. One drawback (but still good because I know it’s written to be) is the sort of near-silly – IMO – walkover of the females in each book. And yes, I totally understand why…I’m just surprised at their perpetual weakness even when united with their lifemates. It’s very “caveman”, man rules / girl obeys period. Loved or not if they want her to the male CAN enforce his will & “for her safety” lock her up when & wherever if he chooses.
Also, while exceptionally powerful and maintaining SO many gifts they appear all but entirely unstoppable in every way. That said, many fights have the carpathian being shredded by vamp talons or similarly wounded & they’re basically bleeding out in moments, need healer assistance – that kind of thing. Not sure why they aren’t able to heal anything but a beheading on the fly – THEY’RE IMMORTAL AND SUPER OVERPOWERED! So why they’re so often in dire straits is almost silly.
Nevertheless the books are a fun, intense read. And they all have an exceedingly mature bent for the lifemate shenanigans – basically animalistic. But it’s all well written. (Although some words / phrases are quite extensively overused.) But again, they’re good stories regardless. Anyone reading this series isn’t searching for Shakespeare!

Dark Prince audiobook by Christine Feehan
I love Raven and Mikhail but this book is a little on the boring side. Sure, there are murderers and he is a prince, but you just aren’t sucked in for the ride in this story. I can’t explain it, but it just doesn’t hook me like many of the others in the series.
I think that Raven is cool and I even like how they all protect her. Maybe it’s because the writing style is a little dated? I don’t know but I just don’t find myself imagining myself as Raven. That’s the mark of a great story, in my opinion, and this just doesn’t do that for me.
It’s still really worth reading, especially if you have ever read any of the other dark Carpathian series. I used to pick and choose books in the series, but reading it all the way through really was great! I highly recommend it, because the lore of the series is amazing when read like that. I love it. Christine hit gold with the overarching plotline but I am beginning to wonder if it ever ends…
In case you don’t know, this book is the first in a long series about the Carpathian race, a vampire like species whose males can go full evil Dracula if they don’t find their soulmate. They’re super powered, super passionate, and their lifemate is their whole reason for existence. That makes them overprotective, overbearing, and over-the-top controlling once they find them. The whole series centers on why they can’t procreate like they used to, with the female population dropping alarmingly fast and no lifemates available to save the males from the dark sides of their own natures. They’re dying and Mikhail is the man in charge of making sure that doesn’t happen.
And Raven is just the woman to make sure that doesn’t go to his head. Or let it rule his entire life. She’s the perfect mate to a leader like Mikhail and I love the scenes they appear in in future novels. This book just isn’t my favorite. I would give it 3.5 stars. Still recommend it, just don’t give up on the series if it doesn’t pull you in!

Dark Prince audio narrated by Abby Craden
I remember I got this for free last year or so. I still had it as unread in my library. It’s a slow start about finding a life mate to push darkness away.
There are creatures there are more than vampire.
It’s seems an interesting story, but I had problems to get connected with the characters.
Mikhail and Raven two characters find each other. Emotional, I felt jumbled. Description wise not much, I hope for more information and description about history and the surroundings in this area, but nothing it would have lifted the storyline a bit.
The storyline development is very slow, and I struggled to believe that a woman can follow so fast a total stranger. Raven seemed to be a strong character, but she lose her free will. Mikhail is demanding, arrogant and knows no bounds.
I would have loved more involvement with the people in the village it was not enough. The action is written well, but that’s all. I liked Griorgi good character. Overall the story lacks on something, I don’t think I will getting the second one for this price, to high.

I was introduced to this author and series many years ago when I was in Boarders book store looking for a good vampire romance book and stumbled upon Dark Symphony, I fell in love and when I discovered that it was part of a series I immediately went hunting for the books before it.
I found it really hard to complete Dark Prince and honestly its not my favourite in the series BUT I do absolutely adore Mikhail and Raven in future books
