I would like to thank Netgalley for an advance copy of Cold Heart Creek, the seventh novel in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan.

This book is readable as a stand-alone but it is much more rewarding if you start with book one and follow the character growth! When I read the first Josie Quinn book I was actually a little meh on Josie but as the series has progressed I have grown to love her.

The plot of this story was very dark. From the get-go Josie knows shes being lied to by many of the people intertwined in the case but cant figure out why theyre lying or what theyre hiding. Just when I thought I could trust someone, some new tidbit would come to light. Its really jaw-dropping once it all unravels and the truth comes out.

So many decent people die during this case, its quite sad and heartbreaking and leaves you wishing Josie and the gang had been able to figure things out earlier. Its hard to say more without spoiling the story and half the fun is the twists and turn this case takes. Its quite the ride. Very much a YIN YANG book which combines lightness and darkness. Although, at the end of the day, I feel like the book loses balance and the darkness kind of wins out because there is no happy ending for anyone in this story.

I have enjoyed this particular series…but for some reason this last book did nothing for me. I found I was reading to get through it… not because I was enjoying it. And it certainly wasn’t “nail-biting and gripping” as it was touted to be–at least not for me. But my review isn’t all that helpful, in that I can’t put my finger on exactly why Cold Heart Creek didn’t live up to my expectations…even though I have tried to figure it out. Maybe it was partly due to the fact that I felt like I was reading ABOUT the characters, rather than “relating” to them (and being able to engage in the storyline)…which should not have been the case, when reading #7 in a series.

Audiobook Cold Heart Creek (Detective Josie Quinn #7) by Lisa Regan

Wow!!! What a ride this book was!! So many different twists and turns – multiple mysteries and victims – are they related? I didnt want to put the book down so I could figure it all out! Lisa Regan never disappoints and this book continues to deliver what I have come to love from her writing! Josie, the strong yet flawed female lead who continues to fight her own demons while also battling those out in the world! I am already anxiously awaiting the next book from Regan!

Audio Cold Heart Creek (Detective Josie Quinn #7) narrated by Kate Handford

I think all police officers should have consistent self defense training. Considering Josie’s background she should have extensive training to the point she should give Ronda Rousey a match. A small women can take down a big man especially when you are fighting for your life. A hard punch to the throat can kill a man. The broken glass throat, eyes or any number of places could bring down any man. It bothers me to see women police, FBI or PI’s that are not strong in body and spirit. Give me Jet, Batrice Rose, Sasha McCandless etc. They not only are conditioned but don’t even question whether they can win in any circumstance.

I am not at all as enamored with this book as other reviewers. I am not saying that someone that went through such a horrendous childhood shouldn’t have nightmares, but every time she went to bed you knew what was going to happen, and we were going to read about another horrible nightmare. It was predictable and boring and I think lent nothing to the story. A detective that hasn’t slept in days or weeks is not dependable and should not be on the job. She also seemed so weak letting Charlotte get inside her head, every time. And why oh why did she keep eating their drugged food and drinking their poisoned water? Every time she woke up she had been moved to a different room. It was silly and I couldn’t wait for it to end.
