One moment Jack Reacher’s missions become personal and the other moment he emerges as a patriotic soldier who is trying to protect his homeland. When the thirteenth part opens up we see both conditions combined in the novel. A group is trying to bring America down to pieces and this group also wants to see Jack Reacher dead as quickly as possible.
Jack Reacher is thus fighting for his life and land at the same time, losing one would automatically make him lose the other too. Jack reaches Susan first for some secrets which she has in stock for him. Jack is once again a woman cop who can support but her help would not be that helpful at the crucial time. From one person to the other Jack tries to join the dots to reach the one behind the killings and the restless situation on the land.

Every scene brings forward a new story to Jack and he knows he cannot trust any of those stories because they are all full of lies. Misguided but not mislead Jack keeps his mind active for any kind of situation.
Contacts of his enemy stretch from America to Afghanistan and the hand of some Delta Force officers also comes to light. Jack has to use everything which he learned during Echo Burning and Without Fail. Trusting no one in such a situation is the best weapon Jack has and with it, he might survive for a couple of days more against an enemy that is hard to locate. As far as the narration is concerned Dick Hill is not going anywhere now. The fans have also got associated with Hill’s voice and experimentation at this level will make everything collapse.
