Keep the Midnight Out

Another rip-roaring tale from Alex Gray! DI Lorimer is vacationing with his wife on the island of Mull, a picturesque and isolated place that harks back to another century. Violence is almost unheard of here, but that tranquility is shattered when Lorimer finds a body washed up on the shore below his rented cottage. Worse, the body shows signs of torture. The DI in charge is a woman who is fighting for recognition on the force. She resents the fact that Lorimer outranks her and is determined to keep him out of her investigation. Lorimer, sensitive to her feelings, tries not to interfere, but he suspects this case may be tied to a case he failed to solve twenty years ago in Glasgow.

Not only who dun it, but who will head up the investigation? Wonderfully well drawn characters so if you’ve never met them before, they become “friends” before too many chapters have passed. I walked the Isle of Mull and shared the water with the author.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and although I enjoyed it, I did have trouble deciphering some of the local Scottish nomenclature. However it did not detract from the mystery and suspense. Well written story with strong characters, interesting plot, and sprinkled with sadness too.

Wish book had come with an X rating! I was loving it until I saw the direction it was going–with a nasty sex scene in Glasgow! That was it for me. I’m out of here!

Have found a new series to read. Love reading mysteries in other countries and Scotland is my new find. Great core characters to make my new friends
