The Roommate

This book is so funny that I was in love by the end of the very first sentence. This book is also just as hot as you would hope a book all about female pleasure and adult entertainment would be. It is so very delightfully aware of the romance genre and hits some very familiar beats (mostly about delicious forced proximity) while subverting tired tropes like Evil Ex, and also celebrates Speed and the Mummy for the romantic treasures they are. It is just so good and I am just sad that Rosie Danan is a debut author so I can\’t devour more! PS if you haven\’t read the sample yet, that opening sentence: \”When the man of her dreams ran a hand across his devastatingly handsome face and said, \’I have to tell you something, and I don\’t want you to freak out,\’ Clara Wheaton considered, for the first time, the alarming possibility that she could get dumped by someone she\’d never managed to date.\” Now go read the rest!

If you have strong negative feelings about the pornography industry, skip this one. Everyone else, enjoy! A few laugh out loud moments, interesting plot twists, and seriously steamy sex scenes made for a great book. I was charmed by both of the main characters and can\’t wait to see what the author writes next!

This story was so fun and so unique. Josh and Clara seemed to be total opposites in their lifestyle choices, but very similar in their openness to trying new things and their ability to be flexible and make a difficult situation work for them. They were both sweet and kind, yet had a lot of personal baggage to sort through. Their attraction was immediate and their responses to it were humorous and touching at the same time. Their chemistry and love scenes were very steamy, but also considerate and gentle. I loved the way they worked together to fight injustice and used their past hurts to help others. I didn\’t expect to get a little teary with this one, but their story touched my heart and I was sorry to see it come to an end. I\’m looking forward to more books by this author! Okay ya’ll…if you know what this book is about, you’ll know that I fully picked it up in hopes of all the spiciness it inevitably would entail. Well…the spice level was actually very mild for a book centered on the adult entertainment industry and I did find myself a little disappointed. However, Danon made up for the lack of spice with a fun, witty and entertaining story that I did enjoy reading at the end of the day. I really loved the characters she created and how her plot was very original compared to most adult romance books these days. I will be picking up more of Danon’s work in the future because she has a way of creating very realistic feeling characters that the reader can relate to and I loved that about this book. Someone shared The Roommate\’s synopsis with me on it\’s release date. It only took me one paragraph to fall in love with this book, so I had to buy it. ($9.99 for a kindle book hurt my soul a little bit, but believe me it is well worth it – I\’m going to get the audiobook so I can enjoy this book that way too!) The writing is funny and witty and at times emotionally devastating. Not only is the book about falling in love with someone else, but learning to love yourself, flaws and all. I can\’t wait to read more from this author. It\’s an amazing debut and I don\’t even know her, but I\’m so proud of her! I love this book so much!
