Nimitz Class

The author must be a member of a right wing fringe nut group. He writes with the belief that all patriots are republicans. A a navy veteran I can guarantee that our military is split down the middle politically. Our military has fared well with democratic presidents and leaders. Premise of book would have been fine but as is it is drivel. Do not recommend.

Being a former Navy Submariner, I can attest that this \”limey\” (Royal Navy guy) got it right. An acquaintance who had red Patrick Robinson\’s books, recommended them. Nimitz is book 1 and I\’m now on book 2; binge reader I guess. Anyhow, he writes with the in depth techie stuff like Clancy did. Robinson\’s character development is excellent with some of the key roles carrying forward to subsequent books. The story line is full of unexpected surprises, which kept me reading long into the nights. If you loved, and are missing Clancy\’s original works, check out Patrick Robinson. I don\’t think you will be disappointed. Start with this one, done in 1997 and envisions taking place in a 2002 that didn\’t have 9/11 as the disaster of the century. Enjoy!

This story about a battleship which suddenly vanished by nuclear fission, leaving behind the other ships in its group, is rather scarey and at the same time very convoluted and sudden. The US Navy attempts to solve the mystery, bringing the cause down to one man and the problem of what to do with this killer when he is finally caught because he is a very intelligent fellow, and heretofore involved with the Navy in a positive way. Admiral Morgan is the main character in the book along with the President and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, as they pursue this murderer through the oceans. It is a gripping book and at times funny because Admiral Morgan is a definitely unique and powerful force both in his ordinary life and as the main man to find the murderer. As a Democrat I do not agree with the Administration\’s point of view, but that is par for course, and makes the book a bit more spicey. I have read it three times.

Imagine the chaos that sinking a Nimitz class carrier would cause? Now imagine an Iraqi sub did it and you get a fascinating yarn!

As a Viet Nam era sailor, I remain fascinated by stories of the modern navy. I found this book to be credible and captivating. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the use of modern technology in the fleet.
