Power and Possession (Reckless #1)

I want to state for the record that I actually returned this for a refund. I never do that. I made it to about 37% before giving up, which I also never do. My biggest problem with the book is the writing. The dialogue was jerky. There were too many shifts in mood and no explanation why the character’s mood changed so suddenly. I often felt that while reading I had whiplash. I also found myself going back and forth, re-reading to figure out why the mood changed. For example: the two characters are getting it on, the female character (Nicole) is urging the male character (Rafe) on (she wanted her O), and suddenly, Rafe doesn’t like it and instead of finishing, he stops and they argue cause he was pissed she was telling him what to do. WTH? It also took me a few pages to figure out that he had a tattooed member. There was a tattoo mentioned and I didn’t understand why, then there was a few pages of dialogue and then back to the tattoo. This book needs serious help.

I am giving it five stars even though I just thought this book was missing something. I have been a fan of CC Gibbs for almost 20 years (I know her more as Susan Johnson) and her books are fantastic. My only issue with this book was the bickering that Nicole does ALL the time! It got a little old because if I was Rafe I would have just gave up on her! I loved the Knight Trilogy and I was just thinking that this was going to be more like them so maybe that is why I had a hard time liking Rafe and Nicole’s story. It was still a great read, very hot and sexy. Rafe is awesome and wow that tattoo! I can’t wait for book 2 I hope I will like that one better, I still would recommend her books to my family and friends. I would read the Knight trilogy first before this series.

Don’t even bother to consider buying this book. Writing is terrible , story is terrible. I don’t know how this book got any positive reviews at all

The story is almost the same as Dominic and Kates. It is hard to feel the magic and tension.
I feel the drama should have been built up more.
The dialogue is almost a copy of Kate’s and Dominic’s. I am grateful though for the author shed more light abt Jimmy and Rosie. I would really like Suzanne yogi e more detail about the three weeks of baby making for D and K.
Also , more detail about the second pregnancy and delivery of James.
Me let there be a K and D 4th book….

Introductions are made and drinks are poured.

Rafe and Nicole are instantly attracted to each other and both feel the tug of lust. On a whim they decide to embark on 2 weeks of no-questions-asked sex. The story goes onto follow them on their flirtation, f ***k fest and beyond as enemies close in on Rafes empire and Nicoles uncle Dominic is nearby with his entourage. Add to that Nicoles temper and Rafes propensity to want what he wants when he wants it; A power war with both players fighting their attraction ill-equipped to handle feelings and compromise

There you have it! Either a train wreck of epic proportions or a love story that transcends time and reason and inspire sonnets Time will tell!

Rafail Contini, Rafe with his masterpiece of an inked d** k (yup tattooed!) falls into the category of playBOY alpha. As story digs deeper into his childhood there are issues that clearly colored his life and personality. Used to having his way with women and everything else in life; his looks, money and name afford him that, he finds Nicole a refreshing challenge. She will make him work for it!

Ten words to describe Rafe: Jaded, impulsive, enigmatic, private, detached, kinky, determined, possessives, broken and complex.

NICOLE PARRISH: 22 years/$$$$/American/Student/Stanford graduate/Dark hair/Blue eyes.
Nicole Parrish has had a coddled upbringing and thus used to getting her way. Shes prickly and blaze, boys falling at her feet, but she met Rafe once at Stanford and he didnt give her the time of day. That both irked and intrigued her.

Ten words to describe Nicole: Spoiled, prickly, immature, kind, bossy, smart, focused, hot-headed, secretive and jaded.

The Reckless duet, book 1 is truly a whirlwind romance as the too-beautiful-for-their-own-good Rafe and Nicole come to terms with their fierce attraction and lust. Though dealing with Nicoles temper and feisty-ness goes to illustrate the lengths Rafe will go to appease her when in all his life he never bent for anyone, right in the beginning, before sex, I felt she was being too difficult at times.

Reckless series, book 1 ends with Rafe and Nicole in a good place, no> cliffhanger, but with the understanding that there is more to their story in book 2 in the Reckless duet.

***At the end of book 1 there is a teaser from book 2. Please note the book 2 teaser does have a bit of a cliffy so you might want that stop with book 1s ending!
