I must admit, I find myself starting every review in this series with a clichéd statement about how each installment keeps getting better. However, the latest book truly lives up to that expectation. It does not disappoint and embodies everything I adore about this author and the Sin series. Filled with humor, action, and an array of well-developed, eccentric characters, it left me yearning for more.
Our beloved couple appears to have found some semblance of stability. The story takes place several months after the conclusion of Book 4. With no recent life-threatening attacks, Alexis and Kieran focus on strengthening the latter’s elite forces, ensuring they stand on equal footing for the upcoming Magical Summit in a few months. Bria and Henry compile a list of potential candidates, many seemingly unattainable. Without Kieran’s knowledge, Alexis and Bria recruit others to embark on a mountain expedition, aiming to track down one particularly formidable individual—a giant known for manipulating the very earth beneath their feet. As always, when Lexi is involved in any covert plan, chaos ensues, surpassing expectations.
Initially, I anticipated a slower pace in this book, primarily centered around recruiting magical talents to pledge their loyalty to Kieran. I expected them to scout and encounter some familiar misadventures, filling the pages. While elements of this were present, I was unequivocally mistaken about the direction the story took and its pace. I started reading leisurely, hoping to savor the experience. However, that intention swiftly dissipated as I found myself unable to tear my eyes away from the book.
For those who have experienced a gap between books (as I typically reread), fear not. The author provides concise recaps that bridge any knowledge gaps. Once I delved into the story, I effortlessly reimmersed myself in the world Breene so masterfully creates. Laughter ensued, particularly due to Lexi and Daisy, who were as sharp and entertaining as ever. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, and there was even a moment when unrequited love tugged at my heartstrings, evoking a cascade of emotions. The steamy scenes between our blissful couple were tastefully done, and I appreciate the author’s decision to maintain their unyielding bond, avoiding unnecessary relationship turmoil. Their unwavering dedication to each other radiated throughout the pages, and Kieran’s declarations regarding Lexi were simply electrifying. The remarkable supporting cast returned, with the introduction of a couple of captivating new characters. They were genuinely fantastic, leaving me eager to explore their stories in the next book.
Betrayal lurks within this book’s pages, and an old adversary resurfaces, while Lexi delves deeper into her past and unravels the secrets of her powers. I won’t spoil anything here, but the final chapters painted a triumphant grin on my face, nearly provoking me to pump my fist in the air. It was enough to turn me into an enthusiastic fangirl of Breene’s talent. The suspenseful moments and accompanying dialogue were exceptionally well-executed. A new threat looms on the horizon, and even the most carefully laid plans can crumble as the team fights to emerge victorious, even in the face of utter defeat. The only drawback? The agonizing wait for the next book. Cue the first-world reader problems and lamentations. 🙁 In the meantime, I will undoubtedly reread this book multiple times, starting within the next week. Oh, and let me tantalize you with two words: battle cats. Yes, you read that correctly, and it was just as extraordinary as it sounds. Bring on Book 6!

The path this book would take remained a mystery to me! It introduced captivating new additions to the team, and I couldn’t help but speculate about the whereabouts of the missing spirits and when Magnus would execute his plan. The events at Lydia’s had me completely clueless, but by the end, I was pleasantly taken aback. My affection for this series knows no bounds, and now I embark on reading the final installment with mixed emotions. It’s a bittersweet moment—I crave more, yet I dread the series coming to an end!
