I fell in love instantly with this book! After all, how could I not love a book about someone that has a pet sloth that keeps trying to commit sloth suicide? Growing up as a peasant cursed to mine jewels, the last thing she expected on the day she went looking for her missing sloth Speedy was an almost dead man at the base of the tree. Next thing she knows the kings guards and the king himself appear over her. Within moments of this man’s death he whispered “kill the king” and odd lights moved from his chest to her. WTH is going on?.to make things worse, the king now thinks she’s got powers and orders her to marry one of his four royal sons! All heck breaks loose once she, her mother and BFF make their way to the palace to meet said princes. So much intrigue, political craziness, magic and hormones. Deceit around every corner, an exceedingly cruel king pulling the strings off everyone…and one whopper of a cliffhanger! I can’t wait to read the follow up!!! At the center of this tale is I’ve kind, smart and fierce young lady willing to risk everything for those she loves. Be warned, it’s highly addictive .

I originally read an excerpt of the book on Facebook of all places. At first I was a little concerned because it breaks my heart to read books with cheating or where there’s even an inkling that the H does something with another woman. Yes I know it’s a bit sexist but I can’t help it. So I asked a question on the Facebook page and not only did the author respond but another person who read the book responded to let me know that there is no cheating in the book. This made me very excited and I immediately bought the book and OMG!! the ups, the downs, the tears, the laughter, and the love! This book has it all! This book however is not a standalone and the cliff hangar ending will have you back on Amazon buying the next book as fast as your fingers can move. I don’t write very many reviews but there was no way I could not share how much I love this series!!

This is the first time I have read a book from Elle Middaugh and it won’t be the last. I was intrigued first by the cover, which is gorgeous, but when I started reading Alexis’s story I became absolutely HOOKED with her and the Storms. I was kept on the edge of my sit, anxious waiting to see more of how this story unfolds. It’s filled of laughter, darkness, action, mystery and such amazing chemistry between the characters. Elle did an amazing job – I can’t wait to read the next stories in her series! I highly recommend this read, you honestly won’t be disappointed!!

I liked Alexis for the most part. She’s funny and fowl mouthed. But the story is a tug of war. Lots of back and forth with her emotions and lots of her crying. Things too easily go in her favor despite the terrible situation she’s stuck in. The prince’s are hot. The sloth I called from almost the beginning. And cliffhanger ending. Hate the King with a vengeance! Overall, not a bad story just not something I’ll read again or read more of.

4 stars for Taken by Storm by Elle Middaugh. This is book one in the Storms of Blackwood series. This is a paranormal reverse harem. Alexis has always been a peasant, working in the jewel mines. She has a suicidal sloth for a pet, I mean come on how great is that? Her life changes when she is given powers from a dead man. The king tells her she is to marry one of his sons: Calvin, Daniel, Benson, or Robert. They are some magical hotties, but they are not the nicest, especially Rob. The king is an sadistic a**. I did not like him from the start. I am loving the storyline in this book. I can not wait to see what is going to happen with Alexis and the storms. Warning: The cliffhanger is epic.
