I enjoyed this series! Both books pulled the reader into the storyline in a way that made you relate to each character. Emily and Caro are complicated ladies, who have the unusual ability to direct their futures in a time when it was difficult for women to do so. It is very easy to understand their struggles and victories. Spoiler alert…it was not a surprise when Emily chose Joshua over Harry, but I was a little surprised with Caro\’s choice. It was not always clear that Caro preferred one more than the other and she obviously loved both men. As a reader, who loves happy endings, it would have been great to have an epilogue where we see both women 10 years later living happily with their choices. Thank you for a great historical read with the complexity of black and white relationships during the civil war era.

Audiobook Union’s Daughter (The Low Country #2) by Sabra Waldfogel
I love to read sequels to continue with the lives of the characters. The author does not sugar coat the many varying events that happened to slaves and free persons of color. Also, although this is not a true story, there are true events in history included in the story. If you enjoyed reading book one, you will reAlly be captivated by book two.

It explores feelings of being born of mixed races in the time of transition. When white slave owners mixed with their black slaves and produced slaves that were half white. The hardships that endured during these troubled times.
