Caleb is in Boston as an exchange student to complete his freshman year. His parents are back in the UK. Hes finally free to let go of some of his past and live happily in the present. Hes fun and witty which he hides his pain. Hes loyal and good. Hes just a little lost.

Teagan is a genius, introvert working toward her degree in marine biology. Shes driven and dedicated when it comes to her studies, however shes not great with people or emotional attachments. From a loving family, she still keeps herself on the outside.

Her and Caleb get off on the wrong foot but since shes now his host family while hes in the US, theyll have to find a way to get along. Caleb wins her over quickly with his British charm and s’mores.

They started out butting heads, but soon become friends who share their deepest secrets and painful pasts. It doesnt take long for friendship to turn into romantic feelings. The only problem is Calebs stay has an end date.

Caleb and Teagan share an incendiary slow burn. Hes leaving at the end of the school year. He has family and obligations to get back to, so starting a relationship is the last thing they should do. However, the pull is just too strong. There comes a point where you need to decide whether to make the most of the time you have or live with the regret of never knowing how good it could have been.

This story was filled with emotion. Love and loss. Guilt and heartache. It was chasing dreams and finding your happiness. It was sexual chemistry and falling in love. The path is not always straight forward, but the ending makes it all worth it. You will fall in love with Teagan and Caleb!

I love Penelopes books,shes one of my favorite authors,but I swear Im confused after reading this book.It felt like it was a first draft,an outline of a story without any depth.Forced dialogue,no chemistry between Caleb and Teagan,no spark.Something was definitely missing in the story.I was expecting something very different when i started reading it,but i just ended up being confused,cant say Im disappointed (come on,its still Penelope),but its so different from her other stories,so…unfinished,incomplete and unsatisfying.

JUST ONE YEAR, the latest solo novel by the always impressive Penelope Ward, is a complex story of emotion, intrigue, passion and young adults trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in, personally and in the world in general, which of course brings self discovery, challenges and questions.

Teagan is a college student living with her family in Boston, going about her life of classes, friends and where she fits in with her family in a pretty ordinary existence.

Caleb is a foreign exhange student from England who ends up living with Teagan and her family, while he attends the same college that Teagan goes to. Caleb is not only gorgeous, he finds Teagan a beautiful easy target to tease, and he likes to stir up trouble in the most comical and flirty ways when it comes to her!

As Caleb and Teagan get to know each other and spend good amounts of time together bonding over college, discussing classes, students, their lives and studying, it becomes clear that the two of them have a natural chemistry that is hot, sweet and entertaining.

I truly enjoyed going on this international adventure with Caleb, Teagan and the many endearing, complicated and interesting supporting characters! Having Boston as a Background was a true bonus! Congratulations, Penelope, on another great, tender, hot and wonderful journey!!

Penelope does it again with Just One Year. This story was angsty and emotional, heartfelt and hot as hell! I don’t typically reach for college-age stories as much as I used to but I really feel like this one had it all. I felt classic Ward (think Stepbrother Dearest or Jake Undone) in this one which I absolutely LOVED!

“I’d always felt close to Teagan, but now she’d infiltrated my soul in a way tht felt irreversible.”

Teagan is a loner. She keeps to herself in her family, dresses as to not stand out, and keeps up with her studies. She looks for relationships that won’t be complicated, lacking love and attraction. Caleb enters her life at a time when she least expects it.

Their relationship starts off rocky to say the least. Not really friendly, just coexisting. After things progress, they realize their mutual feelings can’t be ignored. Their romance is a whirlwind as Caleb’s time in the US is limited. Their relationship is basically doomed from the start as they didn’t want to get involved since they’re on a time limit. Decisions are made, hearts are broken, but in the end we’re left with a super sweet HEA for the ages!

Penelope Ward is pure genius! I do not think my review can do this book justice! It begins in the loo and ends stealing your heart! Caleb is a transfer student to Northern University in Boston. He is from England. Bo Cheung was supposed to be living with Teagans family, but his allergy to Catlin Jenner, the family pet, changed their destiny. Teagan is a student at Northern too. So many twists you will not see coming! Grab some Smores and some tissues and delve in to this amazing book! Loved it! 5 stars
