I absolutely love, LOVE, L O V E Jodi Taylor’s “St. Mary” series. So why the 2 stars? Because this book was not only unnecessary and gave nothing to the series, it was SO VERY overpriced for a novella. I thought it “came in line” with the others, and that if I didn’t get it and read it, I’d be missing important details from the last “real book” to the next; but that wasn’t true at all. I SO wish I had not bothered to buy this (or the other novella, which I bought at the same time as this one, for the same reason…and I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t say if it was just as unnecessary as this one was.)

A simple mission for Max others from St Mary’s to London at Christmas 1066 goes (of course) awry. But things work out. Might be a good intro for a friend you want to get hooked on the series. My biggest problem is the price for Kindle: 6% of the length of a novel for half the price. It’s a very short story for $3.

The Chronicles of St. Mary’s are excellent books. My book club friends & I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them. I decided to get the short story “When a Child is Born” as an addition to the novels. Hope Jodi Taylor’s still going to continue writing the series!

This series is such an entertaining way to explore the complexities and subjectivity o historical event. This book explores the subjective aspects of historical records, sexism, the conflicts between compassion and duty. at the same time, the humor and humanity of the writing makes it all palatable, no enjoyable!

This is a really short, feel-good story that is a part of the Chronicles of St. Mary’s.
I am choosing to read this series in publication order rather than chronological order. This seems to be the best way to not “miss” anything. Is this the right way? No clue. I often struggle with how to watch the Star Wars movies, too. A quick Google search will bring you to a page that will help you navigate the order in which to read all of these stories – whether you want to do that in publication order, or chronologically.
Anyhow –
Quirky Max, a trip to 1066 to see the coronation of William the Conqueror, and plenty of Tim Peterson (swoon).
You probably don’t have to read this bit, but it does add to the overall story line :).
