PLEASE DON’T READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BOOK ONE

I don’t want to have to worry about giving away any spoilers.

So Shan did it to us again. The big twist in book one was that B wasn’t a dude. That sure surprised me. I kept scanning back in book one to see if I could find what “B” stood for. It wasn’t until near the end that we learned that B is for Becky.

Book two stats with Becky awakening and coming to grips with the fact that she had done a horrible thing at the end of book one and ended up paying a big price for it. And now, as the “Zom-B” title suggests, Becky is dead and has come back as a zombie. Darnit!

Book two has some interesting twists and revelations, but it went by too quickly for me. This has become my recurring complaint about this series: the books are too short. This series is going to end up costing me a fortune. They’ve been worth it so far. And yes, I’m planning to buy book three when it comes out.

Zom-B Underground audiobook in series Zom-B

B has really redeemed herself in Zom B Underground. When she wakes up and realizes she is a zombie; B accepts it and really criticizes and berates herself about throwing Tylor to the zombies when he father commanded her. B makes a pact with herself to be a much better person; someone she herself would like since she has such self loathing for killing Tylor. There is a doctor and a guard who interact with B and answer very few of her questions. At some point she is “fed” and given drops for her very dry eyes. She has a hole where her heart was and she becomes a part of the “revitalizeds” or zom-heads who are different from zombies. B is introduced to other teens like her and they hang out, get to know each other, and at some point are placed in a room where they are given their choice of weapons and are then let loose to torture other zombies. When B refuses; her “food” is withheld and the doctor and guards likewise withhold food from her friends. B watches them become more hungry, anxiety-ridden, and undependable. When there is an attack from outside; a weird frightening clown leads and terrorizes with spiders, bugs and torture. B and her friends flee and when cornered in a room realize that one of them is human. B struggles mightily to defend him but the zom-heads smell blood and let loose killing him; all the while B pleads with them that he is their friend.
I enjoyed this second book was so much better than the first; there was internal growth on B’s part; and very little racism and slurs. B becomes a leader who can think for herself and is willing to make and stick with decisions that no one else will. Will this save her? I am looking forward to the third book and more of B!

Audiobook Zom-B Underground by Darren Shan

loved this part of the story. Shan is a master. absolute master. shows that even humans are monstrous and that we can’t escape . our inner beast. He manages to create a 3act tale in two hundred pages. a short book that says more than the average 300 -500 page tale. It’s a little slow at first but quickly picks up 23% In. buy it now!

As an avid ‘Darren Shan’ fan my son loves this new ‘Zom-b’ series of books. I purchased the first one from a high-street retailer at full price ‘£7.99’ for the paperback since then i’ve purchased the next two books from amazon both were less than £7.00 for the hardback and free next day delivery. Who could ask for more???
My 14 yr old son thinks these are the best books ever and he owns almost every book wriiten by Darren Shan
so he should know….

Audio Zom-B Underground narrated by Emma Galvin

*spoiler* I never thought I’d read a book from a zombie’s point of view before. Really different, but I liked it. Again, really slow in the beginning, but picks up right at the end. Seems to be the writer’s style. Slow to get going, but then just takes off to keep you reading. My teenage son puts down his Ipod for Darren Shan and this series. He also loved the Demonata series. Kudos to Darren Shan for making a reader of my electronically addicted teenager.

I bought this book for my son, who found it to be a bit confusing to define. There were pictures which made him feel that the book was childish, but it contained cursing and racism, which threw him off. Since I was a boy and my cousin recommended the Cirque du freak series, I’ve been hooked! Although lacking a little bit in terms of quantity and quality compared to the Demonata series and the predecessor, it’s still very, very good. I bought it, it came in a day, I read it in a day, I got sad because I have to wait 3 months for the next one. The book’s great and the speed of the service and quality of the product were great.

This is the 30th book by Darren I have read, a single entry has yet to dissappoint, and I am itching for more. His writing style is very fluid and engaging whilst intelligent and entertaining. I have always held the notion that many writers have one or two great books so I have never proclaimed a favorite amidst the veritable sea of imagination; however, I seem to have been proven false. I will read anything that Mr. Shan provides for as long as he has the passion for which he writes to us: the fans.

I have read the entire book and it was fantastic. I’ll keep this simple as anything could spoil the plot to anyone yet to read it. I enjoyed the first book of this new series (Zom-B) and was very excited for this one, wondering what has happened to B and if they are still alive. Darren Shan gives a helpful opening which refreshes us on whjat happened in the first book and sets the stage well for Zom-B Underground. This book introduces a new set of characters from soldiers to other teeneagers and scientists and the plot is much grittier than the first. With a good story, well-written charcaters and enough things to get you thinking, Underground does not fail to not only gets the series going but also gives more depth and detail to it after the sort of introduction the first book was.
I reccomend it if you enjoyed the first and I will definately be reading the next book Zom-B City.
