Lets begin by saying that I am literally obsessed with the Amos Decker series by Baldacci. I wait every April for his new book release. But this one left me furious at times, bored at others, and overall confused in between.
Before I go any further, I must mention that my husband works in the oil industry and has for 20 years. So when I read up on what this book would be about, I knew it would be oil field trash at its finest. Sure enough, by chapter 2 Jamison was horrified by the burning of gas off of wells. She wondered out loud if a paycheck was worth the environment. Well, Alex, you just rode on two airliners and drove an SUV (for two people) for an hour to get to YOUR paycheck, so I wondered the same thing. Rainbows and lollipops dont fuel planes or vehicles. That bit of hypocrisy bothered me much, but hey, its just a book. Ive much respect for Baldacci, so I continued.
There are about 4 different plot lines, which I could get through. But what bothered me the most was that Amos didnt feel like the same character. Baldacci has been careful to craft such an interesting character, but failed to really put his star player in the game.
Lastly, I almost put the book down for good when I read this line from a character: It violates the Geneva Conventions and opens up American soldiers to basically being tortured by TERRORIST groups. Yes, because ISIS and Al Qaeda have morals too and really respect the Geneva Conventions. I work with many US Veterans that served in Iraq and Afghanistan that would surely disagree with this.
Overall, this book was a fail for me. I hope that the next Amos Decker book will focus on him and his amazing capabilities and shorten the focus on just a couple of storylines so we can get quality and not quantity.

This book indicates it is a Memory Man book, but Amos Decker has a totally different personality and is not the main character. The book switched the focus to Will Robie. I was excited a new Memory Man book coming out and I am disappointed in this book. Considering being under the Stay-at-Home order, the bar for entertainment was set pretty low to fail.

Audiobook Walk the Wire (Amos Decker #6) by David Baldacci
This book was just as good as every Baldacci book I’ve ever read, which is all that he’s written. I’ve learned 2 constant things since I read his first book…1. Not to plan anything for after I start it because I don’t put it down until the last word and 2. I always learn something about a subject that I never had any interest in before , fracing, in this book for example. I can’t even imagine the research that goes into each of his books and then he masterfully weaves that information with characters you understand and a plot that takes you for a suspenseful ride from start to finish. A good book is a thing of joy. In this sad time of self isolation, David Baldacci has given us a gift of escape and enlightenment. He never disappoints.

Audio Walk the Wire (Amos Decker #6) narrated by Kyf Brewer; Orlagh Cassidy
But I didnt love this book. Too many story lines going. The entrance of Robbie kept me going for awhile, but, there were big holes in the flow, and the integrity of the story was ruined by the uncharacteristic procedure lapses made by the main character, Decker.
I feel like the author was playing a game of switch-up, or how many story lines can you fit in one book.
PS: Im never going to North Dakota.

I love every book written by David Baldacci. I have waited for years for another Will Robie book to come out. Imagine my surprise that he appears in this book! I cant give this book the usual five stars because theres too many plots, characters, murders, and by the end my head was swimming trying to remember who was who. I cant recall another book of his this complicated and Ive read them all.
