I am loving ALL the Joe Pickett books! I love that C.J. Box has developed such an honest, honorable, and all around GOOD guy in Joe Pickett. All of the characters are so well developed. Joe, Marybeth, Sheridan, and Nate are so perfectly flawed and real yet so full of integrity and character.
The Wyoming landscape with all of the conflicting factions battling over the land and the resources is fascinating. It certainly explains the very independent breed of people who live there. People who very much resent a Joe Pickett type. Joe takes his job and responsibilities very seriously and can’t let go if he feels something is amiss. He’s not arrogant, but he stands on his principals and doesn’t hesitate to say what he believes.
In this book some really weird things are taking place, and Joe is assigned to a joint task force to solve the mysterious crimes. Personal agendas prevent the task force from making much headway, so Joe steps up his own part of the investigation with his loyal friend Nate Romanowski assisting. And ends up in a lot of trouble again.

Trophy Hunt audiobook in series Joe Pickett

I have purchased and read all of the Joe Pickett books by C.J. Box and thoroughly enjoyed all…I suggest that anyone whose interested in the books, that they read them in order. Joe is first a family man and will do anything to protect his family; the stories involve murder incidents that he gets involved as a game warden in Wyoming; I love the rustic, scenic atmosphere that he deals with, et al…kind of a straight arrow who sometimes “wings it”, but wins out in the end! I recommend the books to anyone interested in a good story, outdoor settings, et al

Audiobook Trophy Hunt by C. J. Box

Very nice work, first believable book I’ve read that involved the animal mutations. Excellent story as usual although a little mixed up and difficult to fallow. Liked the story, the ending was apt and in keeping with the mystical theme running through the story.
A couple of points that detracted from the overall excellence of the novel; in my Kindle version, one entire page was missing, just blank. On page 192, I think, hearing, feeling, sensing better in the forests if “walking slowly and stopping often”, true but then he spoiled it by specifying 100 yards as an appropriate distance! Figured it must have been an oversight as any still hunter would tell you. Ten FEET would be the proper distance normally, if not shorter given the ground being covered.
Again I highly recommend this book to any lover of the outdoors, reading it gives one the sense of being there. I appreciate it, being just shy of 76 years young, I don’t get out in the mountains like I used to do. Keep them coming.

Audio Trophy Hunt narrated by David Chandler

This is only the fourth book in the series, and posibly I enjoyed it just a tad less than the others. It’s still about four stars for me, though, and I already put the next on on my Kindle. This outing deals with horrifying mutilations of cattle and later, people. Joe does his thing, investigating even though he is treated badly by the Sheriff and some others. He is bullied, really, and I always feel so bad for him. But I love what his great wife, Marybeth, tells him: Youre better than tough, Joe. Youre good. Ill stick with good. Just how I feel, too! I also love Joe’s relationship with his children, especially the oldest, Sheridan. This is a very well written series, and the characters are so real, we feel we know them. Many readers didn’t care for this outing because there’s some question of paranormal involvement, but I think that, too, is realistic in today’s world, even in Wyoming. Each book is complete and can stand on its own – never a cliffhanger – and I absolutely love that. When I sit down with a Joe Pickett story, I know there will be an ending with the plot ends tied up. Thak you, C.J. Box!

I’m becoming a real CJ Box fan. Like his other books, this one is well written. I liked the characters, Joe, Marybeth, his daughters, and he has included another – Nate Romanowski. Nate is very mysterious character and he adds some spice to the story. He carries a huge revolver (.454 Casul) and trains/lives with falcons. He apparently has some involvement with the US Department of Defense, but we aren’t sure if it is true of what – mysterious. He is there to assist Joe Pickett in difficult situations (which he has in this and the previous book). This book is mysterious. There is a supernatural quality to it (and since I believe in the supernatural, I’m drawn to that, although I really don’t believe in aliens). But, the real problem is more real, and Joe with Nate’s help figures it out. These are well written books and fun to read. I’m now reading the next one.
