An Act of Treason

It\’s a shame when a good book gets overshadowed somewhat by a good author who can\’t keep names straight and either doesn\’t have an editor to catch the errors or has a bad editor. I counted at least 3 instances of names being mixed up to the point of it confusing if a character died or not. He blew up and then was looking out a window. I still don\’t know what the Pakistani generals name wad…There was a span where is name switched 3 times in two pages. Just a shame when a really cool group of characters and a good story from a good author gets overshadowed by lack of details. Kyle and Lauren fell in love in 5 seconds and had no chemistry to me. She had no charisma. I wish call had stayed with his previous Iranian girlfriend. I found it odd that she wasn\’t mentioned at all. Would have been a 4 but the editing didn\’t happen. Nobody is perfect but details are everything in these spy books. You lose that and you lose the reader in the process. Still an awesome series though that I will keep reading.

First off the Chief of Staff does not hold nearly the power that this book makes out. If that is reality then it is a serious flaw in our system. Second no Marine or any other service member is going to stop to help people in Pakistan especially after a bomb almost kills you and everyone is chasing you. It\’s beyond stupid and makes Swanson an even more neive and stupid hero. All your going to worry about is escape and evade. Doing CPR on a kid is a no go. Why is it that you have a task force but zero on site support for Swanson, makes zero sense. Here we are in Switzerland with no other task force people around. Seems really stupid to me. But this whole book is stupid. My respect for this author is sliding fast. Sadly these lack of cm,on sense issues ruins this book I can only imagine what other improbable or impossible feats await.

Perhaps because An Act of Treason centered on a despicable action, it did not appeal as much as the first three in the Kyle Swanson novels. Coughlin and Davis combined as usual for a fast-moving plot with very good writing/editing. The action moved more throughout Asia, Pakistan, and Europe than the first three novels which appealed to me. The villains were as brutal as terrorists generally are, but the fact that an American turned traitor dimmed my enthusiasm. Kyle Swanson remains a principled protagonist who charms women in all settings!

The writers have again woven characters and events into an exciting story. Kyle and his team is at the top of their covert game.

This is the fourth book of Coughlin\’s Kyle Swanson sniper novels and it proved to be every bit as thrilling as the first three. I cannot wait to read the fifth one.
