I’m hooked on this ongoing saga of the Adams family. I am also fascinated by world war II and this weaves the family into the war. It is historicaly accurate and presented in these books

Bright Day, Dark Night audiobook Series Adams Family

While every book in this series about the big Adams Family, is about a lot of members in the family, every book has it’s stars or lead characters and this book was mainly about 15-year-old David Adams, evacuated son of Sammy Adams and grand-son of matriarch Chinese Lady. A big part of the book is about his teasing romance with a cockney girl of 16, that has gone to the Devon coast with her aunt to escape to bombs of London. A teen age couple is perhaps not the most interesting thing to read about nor are young Kate’s very silly stories, that she writes wanting to become a journalist. Comic relief though.
The book certainly was different from the previous in as much as it concentrated so much on these two children and some of the other evacuated children. In that way it gives a better picture of the homefront in it’s entirety. Here and there, David’s uncle Boots appears with his pregnant wife Polly who is discovered expecting not one child at age 45 but twins. And Boots son Tim gets to marry his blind Felicity before leaving for the desert with his sister Eloise’s fiancée Major Lucas and eventually Eloise as well.
The book had some exciting happenings like an abandoned woman’s garden being dug up, the neighbours thinking her having murdered her disappeared husband when indeed only a dog is found. And when 16-year-old Kate Trimble’s aunt turns out to be a traitor. Not to say when Sammy Adam’s house is flattened with the ground.

Audio Bright Day, Dark Night narrated by Annie Aldington

but I was quite fed up with this book in the otherwise good family saga. I felt like throttling a couple of the family members for their stubborness. And is it really believable that the children seem to fall in love practically out of kindergarten? And that all the women ever want is a husband and babies? I could go on and on.
