They tried to hide the truth. But the camera never lies

Blackwood Bay. An ordinary place, home to ordinary people.

It used to be a buzzing seaside destination. But now, ravaged by the effects of dwindling tourism and economic downturn, its a ghost townand the perfect place for film-maker Alex to shoot her new documentary. But the community is deeply suspicious of her intentions. After all, nothing exciting ever happens in Blackwood Bayor does it?

My Thoughts: When I first picked up Final Cut, I was intrigued with the opening scenes of a girl on the beach, suffering from amnesia and a mysterious past. A girl who renames herself Alex.

Years later, she is a filmmaker about to return to the scenes from the past and the strange mystery of girls who have disappeared and/or died. Is Alex one of those girls? What will she remember as she explores the events of the past, along with those in the present? What can she learn from watching clips of old films and documentaries?

Unfortunately, the story moves along so slowly that even the twists and turns dont really keep me invested. I wanted to love this book and kept reading because I did want to know what happened. And I was glad to finally have some answers. But I can only give this book 3.5 stars.

I figured out what was going on and the truth about Alex after the first few chapters, but forced myself to finish. Page after page of the same thing Alex trying to remember what happened 10 years ago. Ugh!

Audiobook Final Cut by S. J. Watson

A filmmaker returns home to a seaside fishing town to shoot a documentary about life in a small village with a dwindling population. She becomes interested in the disappearance of a young girl & the effect it has on the community. The town folk want the village to be known for something other than that. She has a weird feeling that something really bad happened right before she left home, but she can’t remember what.

Audio Final Cut narrated by Billie Fulford-Brown Mary Jane Wells Matthew Waterson Will M. Watt Zehra Jane Naqvi

The idea is good but the plot flounders. There is a lot that is never resolved, the ending is totally unrealistic.

Books by this author makes my heart race from the first page. There was a twist I did not expect. There was abuse, mental illness, grooming and somehow “Alex” survives. She has repressed memories that surface and while she confronts them she loves a Crimean finds herself
