His Human Nanny (Monsters Love Curvy Girls #1)

I bought this book really looking forward to the premise – I love alien romances – but was unfortunately disappointed. There are spoilers in my review.

There is insta-lust on our hero’s part because chunky girls are very hot on his planet, which is fine, but the heroine starts with fear so strong she passes out in terribly dramatic fashion. Hero is instantly defensive of the heroine (who is still a stranger at this point) for others’ reactions to her drama, and despite having just been burnt by a woman, is instantly chomping at the bit to get in her pants. There’s a strange rule on the planet that, despite having a one night stand and no real connection, Hero can’t be intimate with another woman so there’s that obstacle that doesn’t even really seem like much of an obstacle.

I was also disappointed that the heroine’s fear turns to insta-lust the moment she wakes up, with no real catalyst other than consciousness. I got a bit of whiplash by that, since there are plenty of opportunities of “dad playing with kids makes my ovaries explode” cliches throughout the rest of the book. There is no build up and very little plot, with the mother of the twins showing up seemingly randomly and somehow despite all of the defensive measures on the hero’s part. The end is spontaneously wrapped up with another random showing from the mother, and the happily ever after is quickly pushed into. Call me old fashioned, but I like the wrap up to be nicely paced and properly sorted. This was not.

The writing was alright with few grammatical errors, hence the two stars, but overall this was a disappointing purchase.

I have never read any of Ms. Mills’ books before I saw a preview of His Human Nanny. Boy, was I missing something. There are a lot of human/alien books available out there, but very few have a down to earth feel. Riley and Aegir both have things thrust upon them that they just have to suck it up and make the best of it. They manage to move through their issues, not perfectly, but splendidly. You come away with the feeling that these are good people (aliens), even if they are physically something from a ‘hew man’ nightmare. This is a sweet story, focusing on Aegir and Riley discovering each other and learning about themselves. Good characters, humor and a happily ever after. What more could you want? Oh yeah – Bergelmir’s story.

This is the first book I have read by this author. The story of Aegir and Riley. Hired by a Hyrrokin to care for his offspring Riley passed out at the first sight of her new boss. With red skin, black horns, silver tipped claws, formed tongue and tail, she thinks he is the devil. As she cares for his twins and spends time with him she begins to see the kind of person he is. There are complications since he is technically bound to another. A great story line. I’ve read it 4 times y2k days. Please take a chance on this book you will not be disappointed!

This was a charming story about a human nanny and the family she ends up working for, completely different from any and all expectations she had!
I adored Riley and her positive outlook on life, regardless of the situations she found herself.
I loved how Aegir was so honorable and stoic and staid, but always would bend out of love for his family.
I cannot wait to find out Chloe’s story, and also loved the strong supportive group of mothers that represented how amazing individuals are. That staunch belief in what’s right, in love, in friendship; it made the story even lovelier!
So, if you’re looking for a Satan-esque alien dad that dotes on his kids, and the human nanny that steals their hearts and has hers stolen in return, look no further!

I absolutely love this book and was pleasantly surprised to discover it occurs in her same universal as her other alien mate books. As someone who has a thing for males definitely other and leaning toward the monstrous this book captured my attention right off the bat, and kept it with the humor and steam throughout. Definitely one of my favorite reads this month!
