This was a nice story about four brothers that inherit a yarn store after their mother passes unexpectedly, and the yarn store employee that’s almost like a sister to them…but not quite! It does mention grief, and allude to some institutional racism, but I thought everything was very subtle and gentle and never upended the optimistic yet pragmatic tone.

I particularly loved reading about all the yarn, and wish there was more! The yarn store is closed for most of the book as the family sorts out their plans, but I expect that we’ll get to see more of it throughout the rest of the series.

Finally, I thought Kerry and Jesse had nice chemistry, but readers should know that things are pretty tame on the page. It’s not a sweet romance, but there’s not too much steam. Now that I think about it, between the knitting and the heat level, I’m going to buy this for my mom!

I enjoyed reading about this community and look forward to spending more time in this world as more books come out.

Honestly I’m very disappointed with this book. I couldn’t wait to read it because the storyline was unique. The author however missed a great opportunity of capturing me as it was boring and repetitive. The same theme was written over and over concerning preserving the knit shop to honor the 4 adopted men mom’s legacy in the neighborhood. The book was one dimensional going back and forth with the 4 men keeping and turning a profit. The main female character continuously agonizes being in like (love) with one of the men since childhood. This same gibberish was still going on still in the middle of the book and never picked up steam.

Honestly I felt guilty at first for not being able to write a glowing review. But this book was such a disappointment that I had to be truthful that basically the book was fluff. The only reason I give it 2 stars was the theme could have been a great success with better writing skills. So keeping it real I wouldn’t recommend this book.

Audiobook Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson

I knew I wanted to read this book when it made Oprah Magazine’s list of romance novels to read in 2020 and I was not disappointed! I pre-ordered the book so it was waiting for me in my kindle app this morning. I started reading it right away and couldn’t put it down. There was so much to love about this book. Its about community, family and love. It’s about 4 brothers who lose their adoptive mother – was she the glue that held them together? Is the bond between them strong enough to survive? Well they are the Strong brothers so the odds are good. It’s about the pretty girl who worked in their mother’s knitting shop- will one of them end up with the girl? I don’t want to spoil anything for you so you’ll have to read it to find out.
I can’t stress enough how enjoyable this book was. In my head I kept asking myself who would play Kerry and Jesse in the film version! There’s so much more that I want to know about the other brothers. I can’t wait for the follow-up books. I’m hoping the next one is about the firefighter!!

Audio Real Men Knit narrated by Keylor Leigh

I know a great male knitter, designer, shop owner, teacher published author of his designs and Steven West and this book kind of reminded me of him. His love of knitting is contagious and he wants to share as in this book. He is a Mama Joy .he has his own shop. His pride and joy like Mama Joy’s. Groups gather together. They become family. There are ups and downs, happiness and sadness. . You feel welcomed as in this book. Real Men Knit is what makes you want to have the comraderie. There is at least one more shop like Mama Joy’.s where all are welcomed. There are other Errolls in the world and the find their way to the knit shops. This book, to me , makes me happy because of being able to relate to it. No one should be afraid to say they knit. We had a group like OMG but are were and still are called the Wild Women of Wednesday. It was fun to do potlucks, laugh and knit and learn new techniques, and then laugh some more when yarn for tangled, you made a mistake and for reminded that it is not a mistake but a variation. I would have loved to be StevenBeis our Mama Joy. This is what I got out of this book because I have lived it, minus the love hassles. Many of the male knitters that I knit with are, to me, much better knitters then women. This book really resonated with me.

Here is a summary of what the book is about. When their foster- turned- adoptive mother suddenly dies, four brothers struggle to keep open the doors of her beloved Harlem knitting shop.

Jesse Strong is known for two things: his devotion to his adoptive mom, Mama Joy, and his reputation for breaking hearts. When Mama Joy unexpectedly passes away, he and his brothers have different plans for what to do with Strong Knits their neighborhood knitting store. Jesse wants to keep the store open. His brothers want to tie off loose ends and close shop….

Part time shop employee Kerry Fuller has kept her crush on Jesse a secret. When she overhears his impassioned plea to his brothers to keep the knitting shop open, she volunteers to help. Unlike Jesse, Kerry knows the “kitty-gritty” of the business, and together they make plans to reinvent Strong Knits for a new generation.

But the more time they spend together, the stronger the chemistry builds between, Kerry, knowing Jesse’s history, doesn’t believe their relationship can last longer than she can knit one, purl two. But Jesse is determined to prove to her that he can be the man for her forever and always. After all, real men knit.

I enjoyed reading this book. I love knitting so I had to read this book. There is a little romance in this story. I thought it was a cute story.

Happy Reading Everyone!
