I have really enjoyed this series – up until now. The plot had been alluded to in the previous book, but there was very little development and depth added to make it a worthwhile read. The fact that a casual reader can catch so many typos and content errors, makes me agree with other readers about the book being a rush job. More than faulting the author, I would question the efficacy of the editor. Perhaps, sending an advance copy to verified readers for critiquing would be more effective than paying an ineffective editor. Some of the most glaring errors include:
* Incorrect gender references to characters.
* Having the protagonist inform his wife of a new character and then repeat the same action several chapters later.
* Misspelling character names that have appeared in earlier books (“Gena and Dillon”).
* Choppy editing when parts were “cut and pasted.”
Perhaps my biggest disappointment was that it received so many positive reviews from other readers that Amazon’s machine tabulation of reviews have it so many stars.

Home Invasion audiobook in series The Survivalist Series

I enjoyed all his other books but this one is boring, not up to par with the first ones. I had some trouble staying interested. The writing is very stilted like a 12 year old wrote it and it goes on and on with trivial conversations. The hero, writing in the first person, is supposedly some level of professional but the language and behavior don’t seem to fit (but then, maybe he is conveying the necessity to change and toughen up in order to become a survivalist). A American’s writing style shows he is not a journalist type writer to begin with, but his ideas and stories are good and his depiction of how people behave in crises is spot on. His books make you think and ask yourself – “am I prepared for even a small crisis” and most of us will answer – “no I am not prepared physically or emotionally to protect myself and family, or feed them without a grocery store”. A American is one of the few who is brave enough to point out the reality of what would happen, how people would behave when our comfortable American life does not provide everything at our fingertips. We thank him for that.

Audiobook Home Invasion by A. American

This series has been a great read since the first book with characters that can be easily related to and a wide range of situations that do a good job of providing instances of problems that could occur. I’ve found myself invested in the outcome of the characters and was I genuinely excited when this book was released.

“Home Invasion” is a good next installment covering some new threats and some good examples of the mindset needed to deal with them. As with the other books it has information applicable to the real world and several times has sent me to the internet in search of more information about ideas I had not considered. That being said there were times the book felt rushed. There are several instances of excessive repetitiveness that simply were not necessary to the story (Possibly an attempt to provide an example what happens when information isn’t spread to the group effectively?) and the humor/levity between the characters, which has always been one of the more endearing parts, keeps increasing in intensity to the point of bordering on the maniacal.(Perhaps a manifestation of the prolonged stressful environment?) I couldn’t decide if these were on purpose or not.

The observations above to the side it is still an excellence addition to the series and I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks A. American and keep up the good work!

Audio Home Invasion narrated by Duke Fontaine

I’ve liked all the books up until now so I had high hopes for this installment. The story seems to really crawl through this book. Lots of buildup without much really going on. Also the spelling and editing issues are really starting to get annoying. I have the main character in the water on one page then in the next page taking off his shirt to go in on the next… Mention of Porky at some point which just seemed random because I don’t remember a thread on that anywhere. The editing team better get on this and any future books and at least read the book before hitting print.

I’ve really enjoyed this series, but this last book felt rushed to me. There were references to a situation with Porky in the middle of the book that had no bearing on the story. Like the author had the scene in the story then took it out for whatever reason, but missed a few references later.
But still, loving the series, ant wait for the next one!
