Just in case it makes a difference i wanted to make a small criticism…
The recent books have seemed to become formulaic and much slower than early on. While i realize that reflects what’s happening in Morgan’s universe, i contend there are issues that seem to have been forgotten or not addressed. I enjoy the fact that the group is still moving forward and doing what they do but i think less time spent on myriad details of dinners and children playing and feelings and blah blah blah might help move the actual spirit of the books forward. While it’s nice the characters seem to be moving forward toward a happy ending the books (subsequently the readers) have been left in limbo.
I don’t want to tell anyone their job and sorry for the spoilers, but here’s just a quick for instance then I’ll shut up…
If the US was attacked from both inside and out to the point of a nuke going off then i find it hard to swallow A) there’s one platoon… battalion? of Russians willing to go kinetic on a town of civvies without more in the area/ state/ country? B) how can seasoned “special ops types” be lulled into a sense of security with all that’s going on?
C) Why is there no information from the supposed DOD as to the next phase of operations? I thought sarge (colonel) was promoted because he and his merry band were quintessential elements in the ousting of the criminals in our government and those making our borders…
Just a couple of many ideas… i realize these may be addressed in the future but the point is (and i mention this to prevent stagnancy in the story and loss of readership) why not keep the “family is saccharine sweet” story arc to a minimum and introduce multiple situations per book. Like the bikes at the beginning that followed them back from the market but were never mentioned again…. that seems like a spur for the author to gotto in to future. I’d rather heard more about that than morning sickness and squirrels etc…. those are nice things but the sweet moments should only add up to a page or two for a whole book (like seasoning)… most of us came here to keep watching bad guys get their asses kicked and maybe learn some nifty info about old school holistic living (like making flour from cattails) or some tasty gear advice… like the early books. I apologize for the long post and criticizing, but i love the series and will stick with it till the end….i just hope it can reclaim some of its former glory.

Home Coming audiobook in series The Survivalist Series

I started with book one. Not really my type of book, but I was looking for something new. Just finished book 10 and am sorry the story ends here. Well flushed characters, great story, easy to read, easy to follow the characters. Going to check out more by A. American, hope his other books are as interesting. Do yourself a favor and get book 1, you will be hooked.

Audiobook Home Coming by A. American

A. American is an amazing writer.
I’m one of those people who believe this kind of thing could happen and its fun to read about people coming together surviving.
All of his characters are so real and stay true throughout the series.
Another thing I like about his series he doesn’t spend 1/4 of the book retelling what happened in the last book.
I usually get books on Kindle unlimited, but this is a series I have purchased so I can read again, and again.

Audio Home Coming narrated by Duke Fontaine

This man has a gift! I have read hundreds of books in the Dystopian and Apocalyptic genre; and this series is now one of my favorites! I am just sorry, I can’t read it again for the first time. I will miss these people!
The writer developed the characters so well; I felt I knew them as well as my own family, perhaps better. The topic is serious, and horrific things are happening. It is even more disturbing, when you know there is not anything happening is these books, that could not really happen: but, I found myself laughing out loud at times. This author must have a great sense of humor himself; otherwise, I have not idea how he wrote with such humor? The bad language, and interaction between the men, is a lot to take in at times; but as a woman, I found it enlightening how the men interacted, and found it completely understandable and realistic within this story. The author is also a good teacher. I learned a lot of things, that I probably would not have learned on my own; so I thank him for passing on knowledge.
I did note that one review, they did not ‘like’ the way, some of the women in the story were written. I respectfully disagree. I think the women were very realistic and behaved the way I would expect them to, in the different situations. There are a few women, like Jamie, who are warriors at heart. But, most women would have to work through their many facets, to get to the place, where they took on that roll; or find a balance with the new reality, like Mel finally did. Some women are so nurturing, that they would never embrace that roll, like Kay. But, look what kay brought to the table! Mel, Bobbie and Mary too! I have to admit, I really loved to see the romance that was introduced in the later books. Life goes on.
Simply put, I loved this series, and this author. I would read anything he put out; and so hope he will give us another look in to this group!

I loved stepping back into the world of Morgan, family and friends. There was enough reason to fire some guns, and then clean up afterwards. Hated parts of it, and loved that Mels outlook changed some. Neat to find out about how long its been since The Day. Loved the trip Morgan and friends went on and the outcome. Interesting new friends and opportunities, and old projects coming to fruitation. Overall, LOVED, and and about to reread it again to savor it more. This whole series is great for reading and rereading when you need a visit with Morgan and friends. Read it, and read it again.
