The Disappeared

Just finished the latest Pickett novel. Isn’t he a game warden? Get back to his character roots! I am also getting tired of the overbearing anti-government sentiment in his last few books. It is on the news, t.v., social media, etc. all day and everyday! I like reading books to get away from all that crap. I was really hopeful with this book that I would read about the “old” Joe. Not so much.

Without divulging the ending I will just say this…… really?….. that is the best you have for us? The book felt rushed, Joe is an idiot, the State of Wyoming is after him again, Game and Fish is the worst place to work, Governor sucks, the governors henchman is even dumber than Joe, dual competing plots with a very loosely tied together idea at the very end, etc…… I could go on and on why I didn’t like it. I am a Box fan, have read every book he has authored and this is the one time I have been forced to write a review. I am not a Literature or English major and never confess to be nor any type of a critic or expert but, I am disappointed that I spent my money on this book, which I rarely feel this way.

First 98% of story was well done…ending was abrupt and nothing more than a soap opera style…wait until next episode finish. Poor work by an author I enjoy reading.

This author is one of my all-time favorites. But this book is a dud! Action started about 75% in and then abruptly ended without resolution to several storylines. It seems like the author had to meet a deadline, was not finished, but had to submit what was on hand. Sure hope this is not going to be the trend in future. Very disappointed. Could have been a good one… Cost is too high for what amounts to a serialized short story segment.

It’s hard to believe this is a C.J. Box book. I have always been a fan but the plot was thin and it was incredibly boring for the first half. I honestly could not recommend this book and I regret that I paid for it. It feels like I’m saying good bye to an old friend but no more Joe Pickett for me.

I’ve been a fan of C. J. Box’s Joe Pickett novels for many years. This is the first time Box has let me down. First of all, this novel just kind of goes through the motions. It drags in some places and exceeds the speed limit in others.. He’s clueless until his friend Nate arrives. Secondly, and what I really hate about this book is that Box seems to have jumped enthusiastically on a new trend in publishing. With this book you find out most of what was going on but you don’t find out how things are finally going to work out. For that, you will have to wait for the next novel. there are just too many loose ends lying around for the ending to be satisfactory.
