For decades we have been listening to vampire tales talking about flesh and blood. Vampires living deep in the forest come out at night and then they pick their prey for bloodsucking. Whoever is bitten by these vampires receives the same fate i.e he too becomes a vampire.
Deborah Harkness changes the story a little and tells us about two people who were desperate to become vampires. Not only that the two fell in love too which is usually not seen in the world of vampires. Surely all of it is not the routine in the vampire world so the two also started facing the consequences because of this changed approach. Marcus was the first to get bitten by a vampire named Matthew de Clermont.

Marcus has not bitten accidentally rather he had a liking to immortality and all that stuff. The man agreed to the proposal of the vampire after which he was intentionally bitten by Matthew. When Marcus became a vampire he came to know that he had complicated things to some extent and becoming a vampire was not easy at all. Anyhow life strangely continued for Marcus and then centuries later he fell in love with Phoebe Taylor. The girl was just like Marcus who wanted to embrace immortality and the love of a vampire.
As the two joined hands the darkness of Marcus’ past again rose to the scene. Past which Marcus once buried comes back and things once again get complicated. It is like the next episode to A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night with a blend of true love. For Saskia Maarleveld it was troublesome to narrate two different eras and places in time because the accent of these two places is different. First, it was a bit American style and later the tone of Paris comes into play.
