Venom in the Veins (Elemental Assassin #17)

I\’m not saying it\’s bad, but the recipe is getting a little stale… I ain\’t done with the series, but unless Miss Estep throws in a spanner the wheels are hopefully working towards the end in a book, 2 max… It\’s getting a little tiresome to hear Gin save the day all by herself again and again… the characters are wonderful and I want them all to shine… but as I listened to this book i could honestly tell what was gonna happen simple because it followed the same flow of the books before… We get some seemingly irrelevant scene, Gin does every day things, get\’s interrupted, gets caught up in a plot seemingly in no way related to the circle, Gin messes something up, it is revealed that it is related to the circle, Gin almost dies, Gin saves the day, Gin doesn\’t die

The problem with her books is there starting to sound like reruns. also the brother likes to keep dredging up the past like it can keep being relevant. how many times can somebody that died in the first book keep coming up 10 books later?

Im always excited to get back into the world of Elemental Assassins and Gin and the gang. Things are never dull for the underworld leader of Ashland. Doesnt matter how much she just wants to run the Pork Pit, there is always something that needs her attention. Someone seems to be targeting Stewart Mosley, Finns boss at the bank. Hes trying to auction off the last of Mab Monroes stuff for charity, but has been attacked a few times. Gin and the gang become impromptu bodyguards and investigators as they try to figure out whos behind the attacks. There are also a few surprises at the auction. Gin finds a pictures of both of her parents. While, Gin and Brias mother has been discussed a lot in these books, I dont think I remember ever reading about Tristan. We dont learn a lot about him in this book, but I think more will be coming in future books. We also learn some more about the Circle. We see more of Hugh Tucker. He does some real head-scratching things in this book. I dont know what hes playing at, but something is up there. This series is still going strong at book 17. That is no easy feat. Some books are better than others, but I always have a fun time with the gang in Ashland. I think this book was somewhere in the upper middle of the series. Venom in the Veins isnt of my favorite, but it also isnt my least favorite either. It really has me chomping at the bit for book 18, that is for sure. Narration Lauren Fortgang continues the narration of this series. She does a great job with keeping all the voices straight throughout this long series. I love all the voices she has for all the characters and there are a lot of them. If you havent tried Lauren Fortgang, I highly recommend her.

The story line was sort of fun but there are a lot of redundancies and I found it tedious at times.

In all the other books in the series gin just outclasses them in the end with raw power. In this one she gets her butt kicked basically all the way through the story. Not the character I know
