Whistling Past the Graveyard (The Saga of Shadows #0.1)

I\’m a big Kevin Anderson fan. He\’s a fun writer with a big imagination. This book is boring! No cool creepy aliens, no intrigue, none of the things that I read Anderson for! Waste of paper- shouldn\’t have been printed. Please go back to the Hellhole series. Saga of 7 Suns has been wrung dry. Update: At about 90 pages in there\’s more action. First 90 pages are about what Rlinda had for dinner. This book still sucks.

As I suspect is the case with most folks, I read \”Whistling Past the Graveyard\” after completing the \”Saga of Shadows.\” As a result, I honestly felt that many of the details were wasted on me, since I\’d experienced them through flashbacks/character back story in \”Saga of Shadows.\” I also felt a bit \”deceived\” by the synopsis; I felt like I bargained for one plot and was immersed in another. That didn\’t, however, diminish my enjoyment of it. I have immensely enjoyed how Anderson has spun the tales of his universe since \”Hidden Empire\” and again gobbled it up with \”Whistling Past the Graveyard.\” I don\’t know how this novella would sit with me if read between the \”two sagas,\” but certainly as a reader that has gleefully gobbled up the rest of the novels comprising this universe, I was more than willing to put up with redundancy to enjoy another glimpse at this incredibly well-formed fictional universe. And, heck, who doesn\’t love Rlinda Kett?

This book was pretty mild. It did fill in the blanks with some character developments. I loved the other books in both series, but this one was a bit of fluff. I\’m glad I got it to fill out the story line, but I could tell it was a one-off story. I\’d really like to see a new series in this universe that takes several books to complete. This author is fantastic. Overall it\’s worth reading if you liked the other two series he wrote. I hope this helps.

If you liked the Saga of Seven Suns or the new Shadows series you\’ll love having this short novel which takes place between the two series. It\’s chock full of people we\’ve come to know and like, and gives us some additional context for the start of the Shadows books. It\’s terrific quick reading. Now off to the final Shadows novel!

What an excellent addition to the Seven Suns saga. It answers any questions you may have after reading the other books. I highly recommend this book.
