David Rosenfelt is one of my favorite authors, and I especially look forward to a new Andy Carpenter book. I see that others have given a description of the plot in this newest book, so I will just say that his books are very clever and very humorous mysteries. This book is the 13th in the series, but you can easily pick up any one of the books and not feel lost. However, my advice is to start the series with the first book (“Open and Shut”) and continue on with the books in order so you can enjoy the development of the recurring characters. You will NOT be disappointed.

Who Let the Dog Out audiobook in series Carpenter Series
I am a huge fan of David Rosenfelt and just wish he would write more books. I love his recurring characters and how each plot centers around a dog. If you like a light mystery and love dogs, these books are for you .The wit and humor is a nice refreshing change from other mystery series, and the plots are always engaging and keep me interested. Highly recommended.

Audiobook Who Let the Dog Out by David Rosenfelt
I have not rated the previous 12 books, but since I have now enjoyed 13 of the Andy Carpenter stories, I think the author deserves some praise. Defense attorney Andy Carpenter is a likable character. The presence of dogs is an integral part of the story but does not take over. As in real life, a dog is a daily presence – to be fed, walked, or tended– while a legal case is resolved. I have never been disappointed by any of these books. I maintain a list, and I read them in order, but any could be read as a stand-alone book.

Audio Who Let the Dog Out narrated by Grover Gardner
I love the Andy Carpenter books; I love the characters, I love the dogs, I love the courtroom stuff. I would maybe deduct a half star because the author doesn’t know the difference between robbery and burglary (and if he’s writing a criminal attorney, he ought to!), but aside from that, this is a book I stayed up all night reading. Rosenfeld is the only author I know of who can get away not only with alternating POVs but alternating tenses–and I get so wrapped up in the story that I’m halfway through the book before I realize that’s what he’s doing.
As always, David Rosenfelt delivered another page-turner. The plot twists are frequent and surprising. He dangles a carrot in front of you, so that you think that you know where the story is going, but he pulls that carrot back, and leads you in another direction. Mr. Rosenfelt also has the unique ability to include laugh-out-loud humor in his books. Mixing suspense and humor is an art form. While I highly recommend this book, I urge any readers unfamiliar with the Andy Carpenter series to start from his first entry, and work your way up to “Who Let the Dog Out.” For the record, you don’t have to read them in order to appreciate this book. You will, however, see developments among his primary characters which will allow you to enjoy this book to the fullest.

If you haven’t read any of the previous Andy Carpenter books, or the stand alones, or the non-fiction by David Rosenfelt, I’m jealous. I’m jealous because the funniest binge reading opportunity you’ll ever find has just dropped into your lap, while I had to endure waiting a full year between each book. You can laugh your way through the molten heat of August, while I’m left sadly crossing days off the calendar until the next DR book. If you have read every one of the previous books, you might be a teensy bit disappointed that Hike only gets a passing mention and there’s no more song talking, but you’ll still love this one and laugh on every page.Just head over to David’s Facebook page when you need a laugh. You may find yourself offering to shovel the yard, pass out meds, and vacuum so David can get more writing time. I did.
